About
What is CrossFit? And what does CrossFit Saint John provide?
CROSSFIT is constantly varied,
functional movements
performed at high intensity.
CrossFit is the principal strength and conditioning program for many police academies and tactical operations teams, military special operations units, champion martial artists, and hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide.
Our program delivers a fitness that is, by design, broad, general, and inclusive. Our specialty is not specializing. Combat, survival, many sports, and life reward this kind of fitness and, on average, punish the specialist. The CrossFit program is designed for universal scalability making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience. We’ve used our same routines for elderly individuals with heart disease and cage fighters one month out from televised bouts. We scale load and intensity; we don’t change programs.
Fitness is an increased work capacity across broad time and modal domains.
The needs of Olympic athletes and our grandparents differ by degree not kind. Our terrorist hunters, skiers, mountain bike riders and housewives have found their best fitness from the same regimen. Thousands of athletes worldwide have followed our workouts posted daily on this site and distinguished themselves in combat, the streets, the ring, stadiums, gyms and homes. From the beginning, the aim of CrossFit has been to forge a broad, general, and inclusive fitness. We sought to build a program that would best prepare trainees for any physical contingency—prepare them not only for the unknown but for the unknowable. Looking at all sport and physical tasks collectively, we asked what physical skills and adaptations would most universally lend themselves to performance advantage. Capacity culled from the intersection of all sports demands would quite logically lend itself well to all sport. In sum, our specialty is not specializing.– Greg Glassman, April 2007, Understanding CrossFit

CrossFit Saint John provides a training program that is safe yet intense and is only limited by your personal motivation. We sit down with you, assess your goals, assess your abilities, take you through the fundamental sessions to help you become proficient in many movements required to join the CrossFit group training. You will be given excellent coaching from the trainers that you will not get on your own. We want to be a part of your success, and we will make sure you train hard to get it.
It has been asked, ” why would I got to your gym when I could just go online and train myself?” Our response is simple. Coaching. Let us explain.
You are going to be taught how to move properly and safely and effectively.
Put it this way: watch the Olympics and check to see if the guys putting 400 pounds over their head have a coach or not. Watch a boxing match and check to see what happens between rounds when the athletes go back to the corner. I can go on for days.
Every athlete at every level of every sport has a coach behind him. Anyone who thinks they are “above” the need of a coach is in denial.
YOU need a coach. We need a coach. Everyone needs a coach if they want to maximize their training. Otherwise, why simply go through the motions? But truth be told, not everyone wants coaching, and that’s your choice. We simply wanted to inform you of what we offer, and the benefits you will get from it.
