Plans for September 2010

We have had a great response throughout August as we worked on squating and balance… September will be a month covering, stance/grip/position throughout various lifts, we will also work on the presses, and a bit focus on mobility.

Many have brought a blog to our attention and after reviewing it, we believe it’s great. It is a Mobility WOD page created by KStar, a CrossFit mobility expert. We intend on following his blog along with our own programming. KStar challenges participants to accumulate time performing a movement that will enhance your range of motion. Example, the first WOD he suggests sitting in a deep squat for an accumulated 10 throughout the day. All at once, or in various intervals. It’s up to you….just get it done. He has his suggestions and demonstrations in video.

Next we will be working on footwork and timing for various lifts. This will be a part of the warm up and strength work each day.

We will be hosting a session, one night a week dedicated to proficiency in lifting. Attendence will be limited.

More to follow..

Oly Cert in PEI

Would like to congratulate both Greg and Wayne on an impressive weeken at the Oly Cert. They are now CrossFit Olympic Lifting Certified. These guys did great, and had a great time with the others from the maritimes by the looks of things.

We had some world class instructors and they were great. I think the SJ crew left somewhat of a mark on them. Coach Mike Burgener’s son Cody was warned to stay away but curiousity much have got the better of him. Apparently he’s aware of  the video on youtube ” my new haircut” and apparently he’s not shy of the odd Jager-bomb either….

Here’s a pic displaying the aftermath on Sunday…. what a great crew…both the trainers and the attendees….Thank you everyone!

Get ready people….

“IT’S @#$#ING GAME TIME!!!”

Jager - Bomb!!!

Skipping Ropes

We have just done a trial order of 10 of the speed ropes. Identical to the one Ray brought to the gym.

It will be first come first serve….and by that we mean first 10 to get money our hand get a rope.

Based on demand, we’ll order more, but will wait to see how this works out.

We will etch the owner’s name into the handle of the rope.

Limited Time Offer!!

Can we get as many of you to join us as possible. Even if you are typically evenings, could you try to make it for noon so we can have as many bodies available to do this.

We meet at the gym then run down to Water St.

This will help promote the Bus Pull event next weekend

Related Press Release

Saint John August 12, 2010 – CrossFit Saint John will be putting on a demonstration tomorrow at noon in the uptown Saint John area. As a promotional event, CrossFit Saint John will be pulling a Saint John Transit bus along Water St, starting just beyond Duke St up to King St. This will take place during the noon hour. CrossFit Saint John hopes that this will raise awareness for the upcoming fund raising event taking place on August 22, 2010 where they hope to raise money for the United Way.

Next weekend’s event will be 2nd annual event where CrossFit Saint John will have teams pulling a Saint John Transit bus, in teams of 10, along a set distance in a race. Many different people participated last year and had a great time while raising money for a great cause. This year will be no different. The event is set to take place at the Exhibition Park as part of the Alpine Lager Saint John BBQ Festival (www.sjbbq.ca) and begins at 2:30pm. It is hoped that many teams come and ‘Pull together for the United Way’.

The goals of tomorrow’s bus pull is not only to raise awareness of the event but also shed any fears and intimidation of the same. A team of 10 is very capable of pulling a bus and CrossFit Saint John is going to prove it.

Hopper Aftermath

What a great showing on Saturday.  Members of CrossFit Saint John had great performances and should be very proud of themselves.

Jon, Jean Francois, Ben and Tom. Wow…you guys brought it. Now that you have a taste of what’s out there, time to crank it up! Big thanks to Chris who made it up to support the crew. Came up on his bike, and ended up going home in the rain.

We took as many pics and videos as possible. Amy and I did a lot of judging and might have missed some of the opportunities. We will be rounding up all video and pics taken of our crew so we can share as much as possible.

Congrats Greg Pattman!

Everyone pass on your best wishes to Greg who will be getting married in a very short time.

I’m sure he’ll be sneaking out of his room to attend the local CrossFit WODs but I doubt he’ll get away with it as his wife would be able to follow his sweat trail back to the gym.

All the best wishes to you Greg. Congrats

We’ll have a special WOD waiting for your return…. I think “Brutus” will miss you!

A new CrossFitter enters the world!!!

We would like to congratulate Jon and family on their new member to the crew.

Elliott Timothy Ross

In Jon’s words…

Hi everyone, I wanted to let you all know that we finally had the baby!  Eleven days late and a little ‘overgrown’ but perfectly healthy.  Jen’s doing better and better despite a tough 12 hour labour and thanks to the great staff at the hospital’s labour and delivery and maternity ward.  He was 8.14!!  So very much a big fella!  He’s eating well and pooping well and even having a few naps here and there.  Georgia’s happy to have a new baby ‘brudder’!
